Ps Joshua Newington
Associate Lecturer in Ministry; Coordinator of Professional PracticeJosh Newington is an Associate Lecturer in Ministry and Coordinator of Professional Practice at Alphacrucis University College. He recently completed a Graduate Certificate of Research Methods with distinction, with a thesis titled A Pneumatological Re-evaluation of Chronomorphic Eschatologies through Agamben's "Messianic Time" and Jervis's "Life-Time".
His research explores theological accounts of time, particularly how temporality shapes Christian eschatology, ethical imagination, and ecclesial practice. Drawing on Pauline theology, contemporary continental philosophy, and pneumatological methodology, Josh's work engages questions of power, formation, and lived Christian time.
Josh is an ordained minister in the Australian Christian Churches (ACC) with over a decade of pastoral ministry experience, and he remains deeply interested in the intersection of theological scholarship, ministry practice, and contemporary culture.

Current Research
My research interests lie at the intersection of theology, sociology, and critical theory, with a particular focus on the formation of identity, the role of the church in late modern societies, and the critique of secular social imaginaries. I am especially interested in exploring how theological method can be brought into dialogue with continental philosophy (particularly Giorgio Agamben) and classical sociological theory to interpret and challenge contemporary cultural, political, and religious structures.
My work engages with questions of temporality, power, and disciplinary formation, particularly in light of media and technology, and considers how the Christian tradition might contribute to a more humane and hopeful public discourse. I am also interested in pedagogy, especially in designing learning experiences that enable students to critically reflect on their own identity formation and social location within both church and society.
