Dr Julie Mathews

Honorary Associate

Julie Mathews is an Honorary Associate of AC. She was formerly a faculty member in the School of Education. She has been a Christian education leader and researcher for more than twenty years, with leadership roles including: eight years as a head of faculty in the Christian tertiary sector; ten years as a deputy principal in Christian schools; and five years as a regional director for AC's Teaching Hubs program. She is also an experienced coach who specialises in coaching executive and faculty leaders in schools.

Julie’s experience has enabled her to develop a thorough understanding of educational systems and the needs of teachers. This is evident in the Christian initial teacher education programs she designed, developed and delivered at Excelsia College. She has also co-designed and delivered professional development programs (including master’s programs) for Christian schools in Australia and in Sichuan, China.

Julie’s doctoral studies examined the benefits of mentoring for initial teacher education students in transitioning to the profession. This study has led her to further research into coaching/mentoring of initial teacher education students, early career teachers and potential school leaders.
