The Opportunity

The School of Ministry and Theology is seeking a dynamic and committed academic leader to serve as Associate Head of School.

This strategic leadership role supports the Head of School in shaping and sustaining a high-performing academic community, fostering a healthy and vibrant staff culture, and strengthening the School's engagement with churches and strategic partners.

The Associate Head of School plays a key role in advancing the School's mission to serve the Church through theological education, leadership formation, and scholarship.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic & Operational Leadership

  • Collaborate with the Head of School to develop and implement the School's staffing plan, including workforce composition, skills mix, and long-term capacity planning.
  • Support the effective management of staffing allocations and timetabling.
  • Contribute to strategic planning and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Provide cultural leadership aligned with AC's mission, vision, and values.

People & Academic Leadership

  • Manage direct reports and contribute to the supervision of faculty, including sessional staff, in consultation with discipline leaders and program directors.
  • Foster a collaborative, high-performing academic culture.
  • Participate in teaching, research, supervision, and scholarship in your disciplinary area, as agreed with the Head of School.

External Engagement & Growth

  • Manage key third-party and ministry partner relationships relevant to the School's programs.
  • Develop pathway arrangements with churches, schools, and training providers to strengthen recruitment and student progression.
  • Collaborate with the College's marketing and development teams to support sustainable growth.

About You

Qualifications

  • Earned doctorate from an Australian or recognised international higher education institution (strongly preferred).
  • A demonstrated and active commitment to the Christian faith that informs both professional and personal life.
  • Candidates must be Australian citizens or permanent residents.

Experience

  • Successful experience in academic leadership.
  • A minimum of 1-2 years of academic leadership experience is required.
  • Proven track record in tertiary teaching, research, and scholarship within a relevant discipline.
  • Background in theology or ministry studies is required.

Knowledge & Understanding

  • Deep understanding of the mission of higher education and vocational training within the Church.
  • Familiarity with the Australian higher education sector and relevant disciplinary standards.
  • Working knowledge of budgeting, staffing, and timetabling processes.

  • Demonstrated ability to lead and manage people effectively.
  • Capacity to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Genuine respect for others, evidenced in diverse professional contexts.
