Adjunct Lecturer Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Perspectives (Education)

About the Role

Alphacrucis University College is seeking an Adjunct Faculty member to contribute to the delivery of a key Education unit focused on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Perspectives in Education.

This role involves facilitating interactive online tutorials, marking assessments, and supporting pre-service teachers to develop cultural competence. You will play a key role in ensuring learning is culturally respectful, academically rigorous, and aligned with national teaching standards.

This is a casual academic position, delivered fully online, offering flexibility and the opportunity to contribute to a purpose-driven higher education environment..

Key Responsibilities

Teaching & Learning

  • Facilitate fortnightly 90-minute online tutorials (interactive, not lecture-based)
  • Prepare and deliver learning activities and teaching resources via Moodle
  • Contribute to culturally safe, accurate, and pedagogically sound curriculum delivery

Assessment & Feedback

  • Mark assessments in line with academic standards
  • Provide timely, constructive, and culturally informed feedback

Student Support

  • Respond to student queries and support engagement
  • Foster reflective practice and cultural competence

Administration

  • Manage Moodle, discussion forums, and gradebook
  • Track participation and complete required academic reporting

Role Requirements

  • Availability to teach between 4:00pm – 8:00pm (AEST)
  • Delivery of fortnightly online tutorials
  • Content and engagement facilitated via Moodle (or similar LMS)

About You

Essential:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education or a related field
  • Christian faith (essential requirement)
    • All lecturers at Alphacrucis are Christian
    • A Christian worldview is integrated into every unit
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander histories, cultures, and perspectives OR
    • Indigenous heritage OR
    • Experience working in an Indigenous cultural environment or school
  • Strong communication and online teaching skills
  • Ability to deliver culturally responsive and inclusive learning

Desirable:

  • Postgraduate qualification (completed or in progress)
  • Experience teaching pre-service teachers
  • Experience with LMS platforms (e.g. Moodle)

Salary & Conditions

This role is covered by the Higher Education Industry – Academic Staff Award and is offered on a casual basis.

Compensation is aligned with casual academic (lecturer) rates and includes multiple components:

  • Lecture-based hourly rate (applied to tutorial delivery)
  • Per-student payment component
  • Marking rates (based on assessment load)

Rates are reviewed annually in line with the Award and institutional settings.

  • Contractors are welcome to apply (ABN required)
