Have you wanted to see how a great story telling language works? The study of Old Testament (OT) Hebrew will provide you with these insights. OT Hebrew 1 presents you with the foundational tools, vocabulary and grammar to not only understand OT Hebrew, but also enable you to translate simple OT Hebrew texts into English. Further, by having these tools, you will gain foundational knowledge of the richness, light and shade, and wonder of the story-telling nature of the Hebrew language (which can be hidden in our English translations).

Unit Content
Curriculum Objective
This subject enables the student to begin confidently to read/exegete the Masoretic Text, by working through an introductory grammar and examining illustrative texts or textual units.
Outcomes
- Demonstrate an elementary working knowledge of biblical Hebrew, including:
- ability to identify and write Hebrew alphabet and vowels;
- recognise and translate most frequent Hebrew vocabulary;
- identify basic Hebrew grammatical forms, including nouns, prepositions, adjectives, pronouns and construct chains;
- analyse grammar and syntax of basic Hebrew sentences;
- reproduce and translate conjugations in Qal & Niphal verbal stem;
- Identify and parse simple verbs in Qal & Niphal stems
- Display a knowledge of basic language learning techniques;
- Reflect on the benefit of learning biblical Hebrew for the study of the Hebrew Bible;
- Read and translate simple portions of the MT, demonstrating working knowledge of sentence structure and basic aspects of syntax.
