Abstract | There is wide acceptance that Luke uses the LXX in the formation of his two-volume narrative. Scholars have examined the significance and implications of Luke’s use of direct citations of Isaiah. However, there is also an emerging body of research that examines intertextual connections between Luke-Acts and Ezekiel. Such work has explored parallels between various passages in Ezekiel and Luke and/or Acts. However, research has not yet addressed the connection between Ezekiel and the narrative hinge between Luke and Acts. For this study, I propose that the Luke-Acts narrative hinge comprises a cluster of four themes that are present in Luke 24 and Acts 1–2: resurrection, ascension, Spirit empowerment, and the restoration of Israel. These themes also co-occur in Ezekiel 36–37. I will examine Luke’s potential use of narrative and linguistic parallels to connect the cluster of themes in Luke 24, Acts 1–2, and Ezekiel 36–37. I will address each theme separately, and then the four themes together as a cluster. I will also consider how Luke’s use of Ezekiel in the themes contributes metaleptic insight to the interpretation of the Luke-Acts narrative hinge. |
